Our Approach

Managing for Results: Delivering Impact When Nature Needs It Most

The Stakes Have Never Been Higher

Life without nature is unimaginable, yet Canada’s natural heritage faces an unprecedented crisis. We rank third globally for intact forest loss, have lost 80% of our urban wetlands and native grasslands, and one-fifth of Canadian wildlife now faces extinction risk. The window to restore these landscapes is small, but the generational consequences of inaction are enormous.

Strategic Focus on Frontline Impact

The future of nature rests in the hands of land stewards and conservation organizations working on the frontlines. However, these critical actors often operate in silos with limited resources, facing systemic barriers too complex for any single organization to overcome alone.

The Centre for Land Conservation (CLC) addresses this challenge through targeted, results-driven solutions that grow from deep understanding of what conservation organizations and land stewards actually need:

Building Results That Matter

As Canada’s only independent organization solely focused on supporting frontline conservation organizations and land stewards, CLC will measure success through the enhanced capacity and effectiveness of those we serve. We will track results across multiple levels—from hectares conserved and organizations certified to improved governance, stronger fundraising capacity, and increased collaboration between conservation groups.

This comprehensive approach will ensure that our sector capacity-building work translates into tangible conservation gains on the ground. By focusing on outcomes alongside outputs, we will demonstrate how strategic support for conservation organizations creates lasting impact for nature and communities.

Seizing the Moment

This is the moment to boost innovation, strengthen resilience, and unlock the entrepreneurial capacity of Canada’s rapidly growing conservation community.

Central to our approach is continuous learning and adaptation. We regularly evaluate our programs, incorporate feedback from conservation partners, and adjust strategies based on emerging needs. This ensures we remain responsive to the evolving conservation landscape while maintaining accountability to our partners and the broader conservation community.

Together, we’re creating a strong, diverse, and resilient force for land conservation across the country, so that nature and communities thrive together for generations to come.
