Given the multiple benefits of private land conservation and linkages to priorities of Canadians and governments, the potential contribution of private land conservation to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, and the unique challenges faced by the private land conservation sector with respect to the long-term stewardship and legal defence of conservation lands and agreements, it is an optimal time to examine in more depth the stewardship and legal protection of private conservation lands and agreements and identify opportunities to address these challenges in the best possible way.  The Centre for Land Conservation has completed a report that focuses on the need for private land conservation organizations to have the capacity to operate sustainably to provide long-term, durable stewardship and legal protection of their conservation properties.  The report recommends a feasibility study be undertaken on how best to increase financial support for stewardship and provide for legal defence of private conservation properties.
