Conservation insurance for land conservation organizations

Sector-specific information is needed – Take the survey!

Are you currently facing legal challenges? Worried about the cost of legal risks to your organization in the future?

The ability to defend freehold land and conservation agreements has long been a priority for the land conservation sector. Consequently, the Center for Land Conservation is exploring with land conservation organizations the possibility of setting up a national conservation insurance program. If implemented, this program would cover the expenses associated with legal actions your organization might take to defend your freehold land and conservation agreements. The information you provide will help us understand industry-wide legal defense needs.

About the Survey

The survey was developed by the Centre for Land Conservation in consultation with the Conservation Insurance Advisory Committee and Dion Strategic.

The Advisory Committee was established in January 2025 and now includes people from eight land conservation organizations:

Dion Strategic is a Canadian firm that provides actuarial and consulting services for all types of insurance including both commercial and personal, as well as more complex needs such as self-insurance programs and the establishment of captive insurance companies and reciprocal insurance facilities.

The Centre for Land Conservation provides support and coordination.

The current third phase of work has been supported by contributions from Ducks Unlimited Canada, Nature Conservancy of Canada, Manitoba Habitat Conservancy and the Canadian Wildlife Service, Environment and Climate Change Canada.
